Congratulations

After starting out 0-2 for the weekend, we were able to pull it together and advance to the championship with a win in Game #3. The final game was rough; we were down 2-0, but ended up decisively winning 4-2. Alex Mitchell, our super talented goalie, was phenomenal. He was awarded Tournament MVP.  The boys worked hard as a team and supported one another to come home with the win.

Columbus Discovered America - Hockey made it better!

2017 RENEGADES COLUMBUS DAY TOURNAMENT

The Steel City Ice Renegades Hockey Organization kicked off the 2017/18 season with a Columbus Day Tournament.

We'd like to thank all the kids that traveled to Harmar, Pennsylvania to participate in this two-day tournament.

There was end to end action, goals tallied, and gloves saves galore.  The hallways were filled with the smells of warm pretzels, coffee, and the chattering voices of children.  While the coaches got their clip boards and game plans ready, the Zamboni driver cut the ice like a sheet of glass all in the preparation for that very first puck drop.

The SCIR organization would like to thank all of those whom made this event possible.

  • The parents and coaches who do all the heavy lifting
  • The tournament directors who handled the logistics
  • The board of governors who work endless hours to bring a world class product to the ice
  • The referees who kept the kids safe
  • The time/score keepers
  • The Zamboni Driver - because he's awesome and you wish you had his job!

Now who am i forgetting - oh ya, the kids.  Those poor kids with sore cheeks from all the smiling that occurred over the weekend.

Thanks again to all and with that said "lets do it again very soon"...

Warmly,
SCIR Organization

Thank you Pittsburgh Penguins

Kids Day at PPG Paints Arena was awesome!

The Steel City Ice Renegades would like to thank Ron Burkle, Mario Lemieux, and the entire Pittsburgh Penguins organization for inviting our SCIR hockey families to attend kids day!

The kids were treated to a first class event in the lower bowl of the PPG Paints arena ("The Paint Bucket").  The Pittsburgh Penguins were scrimmaging against their lontime rival the Columbus Blue Jackets (Boooo).

There was food flying everywhere (Well, not literally - lol) as these young hockey players filled up on warm nacho cheese and tortilla chips, cotton candy, Foxes pizza of Pittsburgh, Primanti Bros. sandwiches - those kids were in food-coma heaven.

Well as the Penguins embark into their Hockey season so does the Steel City Ice Renegades.  We look forward to a great season of working to grow with the kids.  Our goal is to teach them the foundation of good sportsmanship, growing camaraderie with their teammates, and most import - Having Fun!

If your child is interested in playing hockey please contact the SCIR at scir.registrar@gmail.com as we always are looking to have more friends on the ice...
